Unflappable: Soaring Beyond a Diagnosis

Author / self-publisher · Published

A seated audience, seen from the back of the room, listening to Jonathan read aloud from Unflappable in a small bookshop lined with shelves.
Reading at Browsers Bookshop, Olympia, WA.

I wrote a memoir about rare disease, paragliding, and finding healing. Ten months from concept to on-sale. I’d been building a solid writing practice for over a year, and then realized that the 2,000 word essays I’d become comfortable producing could take the shape of something else with the right planning and focus. I knew I would need outside help, that I wasn’t an expert at writing books, and that memoir in particular required specialized editorial guidance. Luckily, I found an amazing editor and learned a great deal about the process along the way.

The process of writing this book changed me—I proved to myself in a very personal and tangible way that I can build complex and durable things, that I thrive when a project is daunting, requiring more effort than you can conceptualize before the work begins. And now we are going to direct that same energy into your problems, projects, and ideas.

“Jonathan is the ideal person to partner with on a creative project. As a client, he was dedicated to writing the best possible book and getting the support he needed to bring his memoir to fruition. He was always thoroughly prepared for our meetings, arriving with insightful questions about the feedback and a willingness to engage with my suggestions so that he could tell his story effectively. Jonathan is a thoughtful problem-solver with the ability to get to the heart of things quickly and the skill to turn a vision into reality.”
